Fully equipped reformer studio in Melbourne’s south-east.
Reformer pilates uses a spring-loaded machine to add resistance and support to classic pilates movements. The result is a low-impact class that builds genuine strength, improves posture and leaves you feeling taller and more controlled in everything you do.
The reformer is a sliding carriage set on rails with adjustable springs, straps and a footbar. By changing spring tension the same exercise can be made easier or harder, which is why complete beginners and advanced members can train side by side in the same class.
Almost every reformer exercise demands control from your deep abdominal and pelvic floor muscles. Over a few weeks this builds a level of core stability that protects your lower back and transfers into lifting, running and simply standing well all day.
Because the reformer supports your bodyweight and controls the range of motion, it’s widely used in rehabilitation. Members returning from back, hip, knee or shoulder issues often find they can train productively on the reformer well before they can in a conventional gym.
Classes are deliberately kept small so your instructor can set your springs, correct your alignment and progress you at the right pace. You get much of the benefit of a private session at a fraction of the cost.
Yes. Spring tension is adjusted to your level and every exercise has a beginner variation, so your first class is fully guided. Most people feel comfortable on the machine by the end of their first session.
Mat pilates uses only your bodyweight, while the reformer adds adjustable spring resistance and support. That makes the reformer both more challenging for strength and more accessible for people who need assistance through a movement.
Two classes a week is the sweet spot for most members, with noticeable improvements in core strength, posture and tone within six to eight weeks of consistent attendance.
It’s one of the most commonly recommended forms of exercise for back health because it strengthens the deep stabilising muscles without loading the spine. Tell your instructor about your history and clear any serious condition with your health professional first.
Fitted activewear that isn’t loose enough to catch in the springs, plus grip socks — these are required for safety on the carriage and are available at the studio if you don’t own a pair.
It builds lean muscle, improves how you move and burns energy each session, all of which support fat loss. Pairing it with strength or higher-intensity classes and good nutrition gives the fastest results.
Many people do, with modifications. Please let us know your stage of pregnancy or how long ago you gave birth, and get clearance from your doctor or midwife so your instructor can adapt each exercise appropriately.
Yes — it complements lifting rather than competing with it. Reformer work sharpens core control, hip stability and range of motion, all of which make your squats, deadlifts and presses stronger and safer.
